Welcome to Dioceses Without Borders.

OUR CALL TO COVENANT

Our call to Commitment:

The Catholic Dioceses of Hermosillo, Tucson and Phoenix, in unity with Catholic Relief Services, established a partnership relationship which transcends the physical border between our countries.  Although we manifest our own cultural traits and national identities, the same faith and person of the word of Jesus Christ our Savior unites us.  We are united in a special way by the fervent devotion of our border communities to the Virgin of Guadalupe. Our long-term reciprocal relationship is based upon our call to Conversion, Communion and Solidarity, as expressed in “Ecclesia in America,” with each other and will be enriched by:

  • our commitment to be brothers and sisters in Christ, united rather than divided by our common border, sharing the same vision and Gospel values of solidarity, communion, hospitality, reciprocal service, a preferential option for the poor, a culture of life, respect for human dignity, and the universality of the Church.
  • our support through the sharing of our different ministries, materials and information; through coordination of human resources and an exchange of popular and cultural customs; and through ongoing dialogue and partnership.
  • our solidarity through prayer and worship, the promotion of social justice and peace in our communities, and the celebration of our faith in action.  Our solidarity will be expressed as we educate on the importance of justice and service, as we advocate for humane policies regarding our shared border, communities, and our brothers and sisters the migrants, as we uphold the dignity of all life.
  • our desire to learn from one another, to share information and ideas, and to engage in common efforts to promote social and economic justice in our communities.  We further desire to continue our relationship as a deep and meaningful exchange, always looking to expand our partnership beyond individual parishes and the physical border which separates our countries.
  • our response as one Church, committing ourselves to prayer and celebration together.  We intend to exchange specific symbols of our covenant and are committed to sharing pastoral, technical, educational and material resources.  Working together, we intend to put our words into action and maintain a constant and purposeful awareness of one other.
